The World Conference coincided with the 20th anniversary of WADA, which is charged with overseeing doping regulations and charged with keeping sport clean on the global stage.

 

A major outcome of the conference was the approval of the World Anti-Doping Code by WADA’s Foundation Board and the International Standards by WADA’s Executive Committee). The World Anti-Doping Code is the core document that harmonizes anti-doping policies, rules, and regulations within sport organizations and among public authorities around the world. It works in conjunction with six International Standards which aim to foster consistency among anti-doping organizations in various areas: testing; laboratories; Therapeutic Use Exemptions; the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods; the protection of privacy and personal information; and Code Compliance by Signatories.

 

The 5th World Conference on Doping in Sports adopted the Katowice Declaration which affirmed that to foster a clean sport environment, all individuals, bodies, and organizations involved in sport should have appropriate anti-doping education to preserve the spirit of sport, promote the values of sport and ultimately protect all athletes, so that an athlete’s first experience is through education rather than doping control.
