Selection of Secretary General

Frederick, MD., - The Executive Committee of DEAFLYMPICS is pleased to announce that Mrs. Tiffany Granfors of Gaithersburg, MD (USA) has been appointed full-time Secretary General of DEAFLYMPICS, effective 15 January 2005.

A business administration graduate of Gallaudet University and a former national relay training manager for AT&T, Mrs. Granfors' extensive knowledge of management will be a great asset to the Deaflympic movement in the 21st century. Since 2001, Mrs. Granfors was hired first as a part-time office assistant and then promoted to the position of Administrator in the DEAFLYMPICS Secretariat office.

Mrs. Granfors is currently studying for her Master of Science degree in Sport Administration and Technology at the International Academy of Sport Science and Technology, University of Lausanne, Switzerland.  In addition, she is completing her internship in the Games Department at the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne, under the supervision of Mr. Gilbert Felli, Executive Director of Olympic Games.  She is presently working on a highly publicized special project for Mr. Felli's department, relating to the Olympic Games Study Commission. This Commission analyzes the current scale and scope of the Olympic Games and identifies recommendations to propose solutions to help manage the massive size, complexity and cost of staging the Olympic Games starting with the upcoming 2004 Athens Games.

With Mrs. Granfors' study of sports in connection with medicine, technology, law, economics, management, sociology and her strong link with International Olympic Committee family and the International Sports Federations, Mrs. Granfors offers the Deaflympic organization an unprecedented opportunity for increased visibility in the international sports community.

The Executive Committee is extremely excited to have Mrs. Granfors assume her full-time responsibilities at the conclusion of the 20th Deaflympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2005.
