Alpine Skiing

The 2007 16th Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City and the resort of Park City Ski Mountain Resort left me with a lasting impression during the March 2006 site visit. I have been wondering whether our American friends would be capable of staging winter games with high standards of infrastructure, organization and sport but after visiting I think they can.

There is plenty of snow in most of the Park City Region and average snowfall is 355” (902cm) with a vertical drop of 3,100ft (945m). It has beautiful huge and wide mountains and plenty of access for us to go through.  A large number of spectators will be able to watch both Alpine and snowboard in the same resort.

The Alpine Technical Team members are: Karen Korfanta - Chief Race FIS, Jeff Lewis- Director of Competitions (USA), Scott Sigoda – Alpine Skiing Sports Liaison Officer (USA) and myself.  We worked together to make the Alpine events run smoothly.  Karen Korfanta of FIS and staff members have deep experience working with 2002 Winter Olympics in Park City Mountain Resort. She has been very supportive for the 16th Winter Deaflympics.

I am already looking forward to welcoming you in person at Salt Lake City/Park City Mountain Resort. I am sure that we will have a successful edition of Winter Deaflympics.
