Winter Olympic Games Ticktets Auctioned Online
From IOC Highlights - week 3, 2002
The first-ever on-line auctioning of Olympic tickets, set up by the Salt Lake Organising Committee (SLOC), ended on Thursday. Since the first tickets were posted (on eBay.com) in May 2001, over 10,000 bids for some 1,000 pairs of tickets have been registered. The highest bid stood at US$11,100 for a pair of men's figure skating tickets. Commenting on this pioneering experience, SLOC President Mitt Romney noted that ticket sales on eBay have raised more than US$1 million dollars. The majority of proceeds will fund the Paralympic Winter Games.
