Report from Vice President

Hi friends of sports,

After the 16th Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City in February 2007, all of you returned home with good memories of the Congress and the Winter Deaflympics. I encourage you to share with your fellow country members and friends both deaf and hearing about what took place in Salt Lake City to increase awareness of Deaflympics.

After the Winter Deaflympics, I went on a tour with my wife and visited the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We found the school to be very impressive and were very impressed with the school's high quality sports center program. The sports center was named after the school founder Larsen and includes basketball hall, gym room, audience hall, storeroom and the management office. The team mascot is “Roadrunners”- At Gallaudet University the sports teams' mascot is called the “Bison”.

The New Mexico School sports teams have impressive sports records – This past season they won the state football championships – their first championship since the last 29 years! - and they won their youth touch rugby’s state championship in 2004 and 2005.

The school superindentent is Ron Stern who was the manager of USA Deaf Teams to Summer Deaflympics in 1997 and 2001.

Now back to work, I would like to remind you to settle membership dues - both old and current - before you are allowed to participate in ICSD’s sanctioned championships as well as the regional championships. If you have not paid your membership dues by April 2007 we add 2% interest every month after the balance is due.

ICSD Vice President
