IOC appoints new Technology Director
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the appointment of Mr Jean-Benoît Gauthier to the position of IOC Technology Director.
Gauthier, 38, from France, moves to this position from within the IOC where he has acted as Technology Manager since 1997. His responsibilities in that role included overseeing the technology aspects of the Olympic Games in close collaboration with the Olympic Games Organising Committees, as well as providing technological input in the contract negotiations with the IOC's technology partners (Atos Origin, Swatch, Lenovo).
Gauthier came to the IOC seven years ago with a strong background in IT project management and Olympic Games experience. He began his career as a Senior Consultant with Andersen Consulting in Paris, France, where he was a member of the team that developed the Games-management systems for the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville in 1992. He also played a key role in the transfer-of-knowledge system for the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer in 1994.
Gauthier's professional experience also includes four years with Reebok France, where he handled the technology aspects of purchase management with Reebok International as well as retail project management for the launch of the first Reebok stores in France.
He takes up the post, which will be left vacant by Mr Philippe Verveer, once he retires at the end of the year.
