Giant Slalom Alpine Skiing

Czech Republic's Petra Kurkova brought her third gold home today. Kurkova remains undefeated in all Alpine races, winning today's race with 1.44.57. Austria's Marlene Lenzenwoger came in second with 1.52.29 and Japan's Keiko Fiushimi came in third with 1.53.79. Many racers complained that the slopes today  were not properly groomed and many blame the condition of the slopes for the nineteen disqualifications today. A total of 11 women were disqualified for falling down or missing a marked flag while the men had 8 disqualifications during the first run. For the second run, they changed courses and the slopes were better and there were less disqualifcations. David Pelleiter from France won the gold for the Men's Giant Slalom race at 1.47.95 by a hundredth of a second. Italy's Martin Larch came in second with 1.47.96 and Switzerland's Steve Favre came in third with 1.48.07. The weather was nice and warm today on the slopes and the fans had to peel off layers of clothing to cool off, complementing another beautiful day in Davos.
