Christof looks on during Deaf Sports Reform

Of all places in the world, Zagreb, Croatia will forever hold a special meaning for me, as it was where I first met my colleagues Donalda, Josef and Tiffany. The Deaf Sport Reform meeting was a positive learning curve and I was very impressed with the organisation of the event. I won’t go into too much detail about this event, as I am sure it will be published elsewhere in deaflympics.com soon.

With less than three months before the start of the World Deaf Futsal Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Organising Committee are working extremely hard to make sure that everything are in place for the teams that have entered.

I flew to Sofia on 14th September to conduct the draw for the World Deaf Futsal Championship. At the moment, there are 25 men and 13 women teams entered but due to the late payment from a small minority of teams, I have delayed my announcement to inform the public who have entered.

Nevertheless, the draw proceeded on 14th September with those teams who have not paid their fees eliminated from the draw. I sincerely hope it won’t have to come to this because I am excited about watching a large pool of deaf futsal players battling it out on the pitches.

As for the upcoming inaugural World Deaf Football Championship in 2008, there have been an amazing number of countries sending their preliminary entries. An announcement will be made at the next Enews as to who have entered for both the men and women championships after all the countries have paid their deposit.

It is too late for other countries to enter this World Deaf Football Championship in 2008, however one can ask the Organising Committee to be put on the reserve list in case of any withdrawals.
